The public increasingly dials 999 or calls police main switchboards for much more than just straightforward emergencies. Calls can relate to everything from lost keys, burst pipes, broken or unsecured windows and locks, to cats up trees and even swarming bees. While most of these callers are genuinely looking for assistance, they may have called the police when they really need to speak to another agency.

Equally, police officers out on the beat are also daily encountering such requests for help. This is where Boing can be of assistance. Our system offers four main operating services, each has been designed to stand alone or be fully integrated with one or all of the other services.

Based in Wymondham, Norfolk, the Boing Service Response Centre operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We at Boing (UK) Ltd work in partnership with the police to provide an integrated response service to deal with the growing number of non-emergency calls received by them, thereby freeing officers to get on with more pressing matters. Our slogan ‘Is your crisis a police emergency?’ denotes the emphasis is on the public to take the initiative to call Boing direct instead of the police for minor non-police incidents.

The Boing Response Team will undertake to call out a responsible, registered tradesperson for the caller and follow it through with an aftercare service to check that all is well. The Response Centre is open to callers from the police and public alike and is also very popular with other organisations including the Fire Brigade and Age Concern.

Some police forces transfer their designated non-police related calls direct to our 0800 number, whilst others refer the public to a recorded message giving out the freephone number.

Our comprehensive database is police specific and we are always prepared to add to it to cover any eventuality or individual requirements that a police force may have in any given area.

Our dedicated boarding and glazing service in which all calls are monitored and recorded on screen has a database of GGF (Glass and Glazing Federation) contractors and other accredited tradesmen who undertake to attend any call-out within an average of 40 minutes, with immediate access to Keyholder Data should the premises be registered on our database. All calls are fully audited and logged using a unique computer generated number linked to the police CAD or event number we can provide a comprehensive record of events should the police require additional information surrounding an incident.

The Keyholder Data Register is exactly what it says, a database maintained by Boing (UK) Ltd on behalf of participating forces. The database contains registered keyholders of premises for both business and private residences. For a nominal annual charge householders and businesses alike can log comprehensive details of their property so that in the event of a 999 call the Emergency Services can access the information thus saving vital time. When an incident occurs at a registered property the database is utilised to provide vital information to the Police and Emergency Services e.g. Who has the keys to the premises? Are there any preferred contractors should, for example, the premises need securing? If there has been a fire or flood where are the stopcocks and electricity inlets? And to be added in the near future, Who are the next of kin? And what are the ‘keysafe’ codes for the elderly or infirm.

Integrated into the system is the ability to arrange call outs for police surgeons and funeral directors at the request of any branch of the police. These requests can, be for example, for a Police Surgeon to attend a custody unit or to attend a crime scene. This is the only part of the Boing service which is chargeable to the Police Force.

It is our aim to support police efforts to provide a high quality of service to the public when they contact the police for assistance.
